I am a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Cardiff Transplant Unit with a clinical and research focus on kidney and pancreas transplantation, organ retrieval, organ utilisation, and perioperative outcomes.
I lead initiatives aimed at improving access to transplantation, and optimising post-transplant care. I collaborate with national programmes to improve organ utilisation policy and contribute to multicentre clinical studies.
Research Interests
Kidney and pancreas transplantation outcomes Organ preservation and machine perfusion Donor risk stratification and organ utilisation Vascular access for haemodialysis Data science applied to transplant decision-making
Current Work
I helped establish and now run the Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) programme at Cardiff, improving organ quality assessment and expanding the use of DCD donor organs for transplantation.
I am increasingly interested in applying R and data science methods to clinical transplant questions — from survival modelling and risk prediction to improving how we use national organ offering data.
